It was originally discovered by the botanists Frank Ludlow and George Sheriff in Bhutan during 1933-1934. After 75 years in August 2009, Karma Wangdi, a #Bhutanese forestry officer, collected the first evidence – a specimen of B. ludlowi in the Bumdeling wildlife sanctuary, Trashiyangtse and proved that the species still existed.
